iPhone pic of our Thanksgiving table last night!

{So… how was it?!}

November 26, 2010 by Joey

Hi Friends, Rather than giving you some information today, I am hoping to get some from you. Would you mind? I promise it will only take a moment of your time, and it’s kind of a fun sociological study… 1. How was your Thanksgiving? 2. What did you eat? Mainly, I am curious if you stayed paleo or revisited the modern diet (mashed potatoes, stuffing with bread, biscuits, pie, etc.)? 3. If you did stray away from Paleo, how did […]

{The Thanksgiving Address}

November 24, 2010 by Joey

‘Tis the Eve of Thanksgiving, and with the lovely snowfall and chilly air we’ve had around us in Seattle the past couple of days, winter seems to be moving along just about perfectly. Most people even had a few extra days added to their Thanksgiving break, and according to my facebook feed, they snuggled in and watched movies or went and played in the snow. It is my assumption that, tonight, many of you are busy preparing for tomorrow’s family […]

Duck eggs!

{Quack Some Eggs}

November 19, 2010 by Joey

Eggs just happen to be on my mind this week! Did you know that chickens lay fewer eggs in the winter? This is normal with less daylight and cooler weather. You may have noticed it’s a bit more challenging to find farm eggs this time of year because of that. Ducks follow a similar egg-laying pattern, but I know so many people aren’t even familiar with purchasing or eating duck eggs. I wasn’t, until our butcher introduced us to them. […]

Meet Christian, my new crush.

{My New Crush}

November 17, 2010 by Joey

Yesterday, I fell in love. The kind of love that made my eyes light up and my heart swell with warmth. The kind that made me want to just put my arms around him and hold him tight. I don’t know if it was his huge brown eyes, that he approached me, or his thick brown fur. Perhaps it was the cute way his ears twitched like tv antennae searching for a signal when I spoke to him, as if he were […]

Pastured eggs, straight from the farm.

{Where’s the Beef?}

November 16, 2010 by Joey

It’s unfortunate that finding great-sourced protein isn’t as simple as walking in your local grocer these days. Well, unless you’ve done your homework and know where to shop and exactly what you’re looking for. We’ve done our research, and it still feels as though we’re learning something new every day. Even the shops that do source the healthiest forms of meat don’t always make it easy on the shoppers… from terms from like organic to natural to grass-fed but, wait, […]

{Green Eggs and Ham}

November 12, 2010 by Joey

Jake and I spotted this recipe on Mark’s Daily Apple awhile back and thought we’d give it a try. We tweaked it a bit for our own personal preferences, and found it to be quite delicious, and definitely worth sharing with you! Having hard-boiled eggs on hand can be a lifesaver if you need protein in a pinch, and combining it with the tasty fatty avocado makes it super-satisfying. The rest of the ingredients just make it more fun :) […]

{Oh My Goulash!}

November 11, 2010 by Joey

I had the TV on the Food Network the other day in the background, and Guy Fieri was cooking up a goulash recipe. It sounded scary. Goulash? I had no idea what a goulash even was. It is fun to say though. Say it with me… gooo-lash…. :) I was listening as Guy added ingredients, and got super excited when I heard it was all meat, veggies, spices and herbs. Paleo! It sounded so tasty, that I told Jake it […]

{Whole 30 Update, 2 Weeks In}

November 8, 2010 by Joey

After attending the Whole 9 Life Foundations of Nutrition workshop two weekends ago, Jake and I decided to participate in their Whole 30 program… just because. We have been eating paleo for a year and a half now, so it wasn’t as though this was going to be a major change for us, we were more curious to see if we would notice a difference, so we figured, why not give it a try? So, what’s the difference for us […]

{Chili-Rubbed Steak over Cilantro-Lime Salad}

November 5, 2010 by Joey

This is a great recipe for a light & fulfilling salad. And you can never go wrong with a great steak. Never. We used grass-fed New York’s for this, but you can really use any cut you like. I was hoping to use a flank (they’re so big and make delicious leftovers), but grass-fed flank is hard to get a hold of these days. These New York cuts were quite delicious, thanks to Jake’s superb grilling skills! To prepare your […]

{Bakin’ Bacon}

November 4, 2010 by Joey

As I type this, my mouth is already beginning to water. I must look something like my dog, Hitch, just before I put his dinner bowl down. He gazes up at me with wide, hopeful eyes… his teeth glisten with saliva, and he licks his lips incessantly to keep from drooling. But we can’t help it, Hitch and I… it’s just natural that when your body knows it’s about to get something so tasty, so meaty and delicious, that the […]
