When I posted my Crock Pot Pot Roast recently, I asked for any feedback regarding good seasonings for this slow-roasted delightful dish. An overwhelming response came my way that pretty much everyone loves a good old classic marinade of Onion Soup Mix.
My big concern with this dried soup-in-a-box mix was that there were several other chemicals in addition to the natural flavors in there, and I don’t want to eat that crap if I can avoid it.
So what’s a good researcher to do but bite the bullet, make a pot roast with the standard Onion Soup Mix to savor the flavors, and attempt to recreate it with higher quality ingredients.
And thanks to a wonderfully honest taste-tester of a husband, and about 4 pot roasts later, we pretty much think we nailed it :)
I’ve got one in the slow-cooker right now with some delicious yellow squash that absorbs the flavors as well… mmm…
So, please feel free to enjoy the Onion Soup Mix without all the JUNK. :)
Ingredients:
- 1 cup Chicken Broth or Beef Broth (I tried both and think I prefer the chicken, but both are tasty.)
- 1/4 cup Minced Onions
- 1/2 teaspoon Onion Powder
- 1 teaspoon Sea Salt (optional)
Season, sear, and cook your pot roast as described in my Crock Pot Pot Roast recipe, and just mix all the ingredients above together and pour atop the roast and veggies before you turn on the slow cooker!
